Chewton Glen Hotel in the New Forest has provided a luxury overnight stopping and gathering point for Chris Evan’s Magnificent Seven BBC Children in Need driving and dining extravaganza for two years now, and has confirmed that it will be doing so again next year too. In the background can be seen our two swings which must have had a few of the celebrity bottoms in them as Chris’ friends gathered on the croquet lawn for breakfast. One of these bottoms was Jody Schecter, Formula One World Champion in 1979, and now organic farmer at Laverstoke Park at Overton in Hampshire.
Seven almost priceless classic Ferraris provided the transport of delight for seven lucky (and wealthy) bidders. The seven Ferraris taking part this year were: A 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Competition, a 1964 Ferrari 250 Lusso, a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4, a 1969 Ferrari 365 GTC, a 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO, a 1992 Ferrari F40 and a 2010 Ferrari 599 GTO.
Nigel Rogers and Teresa Katuin from London were driving the Ferrari 250 Lusso
Rob and Mike Oliver from Luton were driving the Ferrari 275 GTB/4 Cam
Richard and Claire Graylen from Cheshire were driving the Ferrari 365 GTC
Andrea White and Victoria Northcott from Bath were driving the Ferrari 288 GTO
Matt and David from East Sussex were driving the Ferrari F40
John Jones and Kevin Smith from Hereford were driving the Ferrari 599 GTO
Neil and Juliana Ewin from Leeds were driving the Ferrari Aperta
Chris kicked off his four-day Children in Need extravaganza with a live Breakfast broadcast from the bottom of his back garden in Berkshire. Last November, seven generous souls donated nearly half a million pounds to the charity, in exchange for the ride of their lives in seven Magnificent Ferraris.
The ‘intrepid’ travellers set off in convoy straight after the Breakfast Show and drove through some of the most picturesque country lanes in Hampshire and Dorset before winding up at a luxury hotel in the New Forest. Then from 6.30 the next morning they headed onward to a weekend packed with exciting events when 30 more couples, who donated thousands of pounds to the charity, arrive to join in the fun. They took in the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and a dinner concert at Chris Evans’ pub restaurant; The Mulberry, at Chiddingfold where special guests included James Blunt, Paloma Faith, Paolo Nutini and legendary chef Giorgio Locatelli.
